Evaluation: Question 2

How does the media product represent particular social groups?

Representation of Age

Representation consists of seven different areas which are: Gender, Age, Social Class, Sexuality, Ability/Disability, Regional Identity and Ethnicity

This mood board is to show the representation of age, as this is the social group we have chosen in our film opening, specifically teenagers.

The first stereotypical view associated with teenagers binge drinking, as this is very common, as it show teenagers love to party, and have a good time. In our film opening we have represented this in a negative way. Another stereotype we used is romance, as sex is another thing related with teenagers, though in our film opening we have portrayed this in a positive way, as the couple in the video are enjoying time together. The mood board also displays a teenage girls making an informal gesture, this is to show the rebellious behaviour teenagers possess, we used this in our film opening when the character becomes angry after seeing the text. We used Converses for our costume, as it is a popular fashion footwear with teens, this is done to represent age. the mood board also contains a picture of someone holding a Blackberry. Blackberry is a popular technological device for teenagers as it allows users to go on softwares such as BBM, thus we used product placement to represent the stereotype of age. Finally the last image is the knife image, we used this in our film opening to represent age by linking knife crime teens.
